The above article states very aptly how the poor live in India, eating barely enough to keep body and soul together. Another side of the story is equally interesting- how the rich live in India. Say a woman of around 40 years with children and husband with no daily monotonous job to do. Plenty of money and time on her hands. How do they typically live?

  • 6:30: Awakened either by the puppy whining to go out or  son crawling into bed and hugging good morning.
  • 7: Get him ready for school—breakfast on a preparation of idli, dosa, vadas,  toast, eggs, coffee, tea, cheese, prepared by a staff of two maids and a manservant
  • 7:30: Look at my wardrobe and decide what to wear for my kitty party in the evening. Choosing between 200 sarees consisting of silk kanjeevarams, chiffon, brocade, tant, tussar, silk etc and 300 salwar kameeez, assorted tunics, western wear is the task at hand. Accessorizing with the proper ornaments is equally timetaking.
  • 11.00 am : Oversee the preparation of lunch. Discuss the evening menu of party with the staff. Prepare the menu chart.
  • 11.30 am : Exercise and meditate
  • 1.00 pm: Lunch with a light soup, salad and fish platter.
  • 2.00pm : Nap a little
  • 3.00 pm: Watch television -all the saas bahu  serials on tv
  • 4.00pm : Call up  friends and family. Surf on internet
  • 5.00pm : evening tea and snacks
  • 6.00pm: Get dressed for the party
  • 7.00pm : Guests start arriving. Part begins
  • 11.00pm : Party ends
  • 12.00pm: Unwind & go to sleep
