Repair of Branded King Sized Bed

My king size bed puchased long back in 2001-02 times had suffered the wear and tear of time and efforts of daughter to try drawing on it. The bottom pane of the bed had the strip covering totally removed and it looked black and ugly. I was thinking about repairing it for a long time & had even enquired about it from the furniture shop. They said that repairing would involve replacing the entire bottom portion of the bed. Cost around Rs 5000. It seemed quite high & so I shelved the idea. Recently while travelling I noticed a shop selling wallpapers and flooring for rooms. So acting upon a hunch I took up the plan of restoring the bed panel using linoleum flooring material myself. The pictures below give the before and after looks of the restored bed & the cost was also minimal. I could involve my husband & daughter in the restoration project & they were kept busy one weekend in the task. On the whole it was a very successful effort.

Process : The headboard has to be scrubbed so that the surface where the linoleum is pasted is rough. This is done with sand paper or pumice stone. Then the linoleum is cut in the desired size. Fevicol is applied uniformly on the surface and the strip is then pasted on top , centre out so that it gets uniformly even with no creases.

Linoleum strip of nearly matching colour and pattern as the bed.

Cost of linoleum flooring : Rs130/sq ft- 1 feet is enough for my purpose- Rs130
Fevicol - Rs 85
Total Cost : Around Rs 200
Labour Charges : Nil as it is self help
Time : 1 Hrs
