India at the Rio Olympics

It was famous, don't you see,

Indian athletes did well at the opening ceremony

Carrying the tricolor proudly

Hoping to win medals in swimming, shooting and archery!

But alas it was not destined to be!

Competitors with keener eyes, swept all the medals away in a trice!

Gold, Silver and even Bronze

Slipped away from our countries grasp!

Now the situation was do or die!

With few days to go before the final sigh!

Dipa tried extremely hard! Just fell short of a vault!

Then on Raksha Bandhan day

Sakshi and Sindhu made the day

A bronze and silver won they!

What joy! What a triumph for all that day!

When the Games were finally over!

All were left with some shreds of bother!

If only we had all tried harder!

Sent children to play instead of reading Harry Potter!

If only sports had more importance in the scheme of things

It would not have been so few medals at the Rio Olympics!
